Important changes in the Formula Drift 2025 season

Formula Drift has announced the essential changes for the 2025 season – a new scoring system and driver’s licences.

Scoring system

Points and standings are awarded based on each battle with a declared winner, and cumulative season points
determine the championship order. The 3rd place in the overall competition is decided based on the highest
bracket position of the two losing competitors in the Top 4.

Seeding bracket- Every battle with a declared winner will be awarded 3 points. Main Event bracket- Every battle with a declared winner will be awarded 10 points.

Until now, the drifter who won a stage received 100 points, second place received 88, third place received 76, and fourth place received 64. The Top 8 who were eliminated added 48 points to their championship standings, the Top 16 received 32, and the Top 32 received 16.

Drivers licences

PRO: The Top 32 (1-32) ranked driver’s license will automatically renew yearly. For drivers ranked outside of the Top 32 (33-48), drivers must petition to be considered for a license renewal for the right to register in the series of the driver’s choice.

PROSPEC: The Top 24 (1-24) championship-ranked driver’s license will automatically renew each year. For drivers ranked outside of the Top 24 (25 and below), drivers must petition to be considered for a license renewal for the right to register in the series of the driver’s choice.
