Round 2 of the Drift Masters European Championship is just around the corner – this weekend best European drifters will head out to Sweden. Our team gathered interesting facts about the opening round in Mondello Park.
Qualification
James Deane won the qualification in Mondello Park for the second time – Irishman was the best in 2018.
Only Irishman won the qualification in Kildare. Conor Shanahan was the best in 2019, and his brother Jack in 2022.
Jack Shanahan recorded the highest result in qualification last year – an impressive 99 out of 100. James was only 1 point off in the same event. The third-best result overall also belongs to J. Deane. This year man from Cork scored 96.
Tandems
Piotr Wiecek won in the Mondello for the second year in a row. James Deane was victorious in 2018, and Jack Shanahan in 2019.
The top finish in Mondello is the sixth victory for the Polish man, and he is equal to James.
Lauri Heinonen took his first podium in Drift Masters European Championship. He is the 24th man in the championship to get a trophy.
Duane McKeever finished 3rd. It’s the fourth time we see him on the podium and the first time in Ireland.
Conor Shanahan finished 4th – this is his best result on home soil.
Pontus Hartman finished in the Top 8 – this is the best result for Swed.
Kevin Piskolty repeated his best result in Drift Masters. Hungarian was eliminated in the Top 8. Last year in Lodz Kevin lost to P. Wiecek.
Mondello Park isn’t a favorite place for Benediktas Čirba – in 2019, 2022 and 2023, Lithuanian lost in the Top 32, and in 2018 he couldn‘t qualify for tandem battles.
Oliver Randalu, who finished second last year, was knocked out in the Top 32 this May.
Adam Zalewski faced Duane McKeever in the Top 32. After a great battle, the Irishman advanced to the Top 16.
We saw only 1 one more time battle in the opening round – this was the Top 32 between Jakub Przygonski and Lee Scott. After OMT, Kuba advanced to the Top 16.
